FCC Supports Local 2 Hotel Workers!

On June 28, the FCC, South of Market Community Action Network (SOMCAN), Babae San Francisco, League of Filipino Students, and Active Leadership to Advance the Youth showed support for Local 2 hotel workers by joining a Local 2 action at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco. Samantha Velez, an FCC summer intern shared the following reflection:

“I have been to many protests and rallies, but I have never been to a protest where people were fighting for a contract. Many times I participate in actions concerning young people and education, and it was nice to be a part of something different. These workers were loud and ready to set a clear message: they want a contract that will give them their dignity and respect that they well deserve. The hotel kept playing music while we spoke, but that only encouraged us to be extra loud, and that made me really happy. I think it is a great thing when people come together to work towards better living conditions because we all know what we deserve. Workers need to be treated fairly because without them the country, or rather the world, would not survive. So I was proud to stand with Local 2 on June 28th 2011 in boycotting the Hyatt Hotel and experience that event with The Filipino Community Center.”
