Congressman Mong Palatino to Address Fil Am Leaders at NAFCON National General Assembly
(New Jersey) Filipino American leaders and community members from twenty seven cities throughout the United States will converge at Victory Hall in New Jersey on October 21st – 23rd to convene the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) General Assembly.
Philippine Congressman Raymond “Mong” Palatino (Kabataan Partylist), the event keynote speaker, stated, “I salute NAFCON for organizing this event guided by a theme that signals to the world that Filipinos are ready to assert and fight for the rights and welfare of Filipinos in the US for greater freedom, peace, and justice.”
The theme of the Generaly Assembly is “Pag-ibayuhin ang Pagkakaisa ng Kilusan ng Migranteng Pilipino sa U.S. Para Ipagtanggol ang Ating Karapatan at Kagalingan at Itayo ang Maaliwalas na Kinabukasan ng Ating Inang Bayan” Further Deepen the Unity of the US Filipino Im/migrant Movement To Defend our Rights and Welfare and Build a Brighter Future for our Homeland.
Rico Foz, NAFCON Executive Vice President explained the significance of the gathering, “The General Assembly is the highest policy-making body of the alliance that has the unique capability to further galvanize our core values and basic unities. It is here that we will strengthen our vision and framework to more effectively and efficiently continue the work of serving the Filipino community.”
The program will begin with a 10:00 am action on Oct 21st at the Philippine Consulate in New York (556 Fifth Avenue between 45th and 46th Streets) to demand for the immediate response from the Philippine government to the urgent needs of Filipino trafficked victims including the Florida 15, Arizona 34, Los Angeles 11 and Sentosa 27++.
The action will be followed by the grand opening of the General Assembly, including Congressman Palatino’s keynote speech at 2:00 pm. The event will close in the morning of the 23rd with the first meeting of the newly constituted NAFCON National Council of 15 members, who will spearhead the work of the alliance for the next three years.
Also on the 23rd, in further supporting and linking the inseparable rights and welfare of Filipinos in the US to the world, NAFCON will participate in the launching of the USA chapter of the International Migrants Alliance (IMA-USA) from 1:00pm to 8:00pm in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York.
