Asian Youth Prevention Services (AYPS) Billboard Campaign

WHO: Students from the Filipino Community Center’s AYPS program

WHEN: Friday April 5, 2013 4:00pm – 5:30pm

WHERE: Bessie Carmichael/FEC Middle School Cafeteria:
824 Harrison Street San Francisco, CA 94107
Accessible by MUNI and BART, Metered street parking is available.

WHY: SoMa (South of Market) is congested with lots of alcohol billboard ads and it is the second largest district that houses families with young children who see these ads on a daily basis. One billboard in particular, on 4th and Harrison St, is across the street from Bessie Carmichael Middle School/ FEC, where students can see the ad from inside the school grounds. This ad has changed three times and has been three different alcohol ads in the past year.

WHAT: Our students will be presenting their findings and information about the affects of alcohol ads and billboards in our neighborhoods and how it has become a norm to the students and youth that walk around the SoMa. Our students want you to come to our event to learn more about the ads and to sign our petition to ask CBS Outdoor to keep alcohol ads off of the 4th and Harrison Street billboard and replace them with either an ad that is kid friendly or art from the youth in the neighborhood.

*Light snacks and refreshments will be served. Daycare will also be provided. We will be promptly starting our presentation at 4pm.
